Team NetApp's youngster Timon Seubert startet with a top result on the first stage of the Giro del Trentino. It was a brillant time trial that earned him the sixth place and the white jersey for the best young rider at the north italian stage race.
The Kazakh Alexandre Vinokourov took the victory ahead of Stefano Garzelli (Aqua & Sapone) and Matteo Montaguti (De Rosa) on the 12,5 km stage between Riva del Garda and Torbole sul Garda.
"This has been the best winners ceremony ever for me. For the first time I got to be on the podium together with Winokourov and Garzelli.", said an overjoyed Timon Seubert right after the race. "For the race I wanted to try a top ten ranking and i already felt good warming-up. At the finish I wasn't aware of my good timing until Enrico congratulated me over the radio and called me back to the winners ceremony.", continued Seubert.
"He almost got under the top three", cheered Ralph Denk after the first stage of Giro del Trentino. "Timon did a really great job", praised the manager of Team NetApp. It went perfectly right from the start for the rider from Hamburg who was able to show off in his favorite discipline. On the winding course Seubert got also motivated when the rider in front of him got in sight. "The course wasn't easy to ride due to the roadway dividers and humps", explained Ralph Denk. At the end of the mainly flat 12,5 kilometers only nine seconds were missing to the third rank. His time: 15:34.
The second stage on Wednesday from Dro to San Martino di Castrozza covers 172,5 kilometers of mountainous countryside. There will be the first arrival on a climb. "We'll see what we are cable of to reach at the second stage. Cesare Benedetti (ranks 32) and Andreas Schillinger (ranks 44) also showed a good time trial and are in a good condition. But we have to be realistic, we are racing against world-class competitors who are preparing for the Giro", Ralph Denk didn't want the expectations to rise too high.
